than 1-hour prior to the clerks office closing. 

LICENSES AND REQUIREMENTS:

Peddler Permits

*You MUST have a peddlers permit if going door to door. PEDDLER PERMITS are issued through the Town Clerks office. An application must be filled out, and background checks will be performed for each person. A copy of each person drivers license is also needed. Once approved, the clerks office will issue the permits.  The cost is $100/per person/per day. This process could take up to 6 business days. Please contact our office for more information. 

ALL DOGS must be licensed in the Town of Farmington, and must be renewed annually.  (Please see link above for the Dog Licensing - Town Code). 

  1. ALL DOGS and puppies by four (4) months of age, rabies shots must be administered by three (3) months of age 
  2. Older dogs within ten (10) days of adoption
  3. Report status changes in writing within ten (10) days
  4. Maximum of three (3) dogs per property in the Town of Farmington, without obtaining a variance, and must have a purebred kennel license.
  5. Citizens over 65 years of age are eligible for a senior discount on the dog license.
  6. Multiple year (1, 2, & 3 year) dog licensing is available; we cannot exceed the rabies vaccination expiration date.

Rabies:

  1. Report animals (domestic or feral) acting as though they might be rabid to Ontario County Humane Society at 585-396-4590 (Monday through Saturday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM) or after regular business hours to 911.  They will need to know the location and general direction of the animal to capture it.
  2. If your animal comes in contact with a rabid animal, contact your veterinarian to see if your pet needs a booster on its rabies vaccination.
  3. If your animal has any of the bodily fluids of the rabid animal on it, ask your veterinarian or Public Health how to clean your pet so no one in your family becomes contaminated with rabies.

 *Applications for licensing a NEW dog can be found at the link below OR just bring proof of rabies and if the dog has been spade or neutered to the Town Clerks Office. 

*You can email us a copy of rabies certificate at townclerk@farmingtonny.org. We will then update our records, and all you have to worry about is the license renewal when it comes time.

***Please note that vets do NOT automatically let us know when you have a updated rabies. You will need to provide us with a copy.

Pricing:

  1. Unaltered dogs:                                   $30.00 per year
    1. Senior citizen (65 & over):         $22.00 per year
  2. Spayed/neutered dogs:                         $20.00 per year
    1. Senior citizen (65 & over):          $12.00 per year

Ontario County Humane Society, 585-396-4590, handles stray dogs, dog bites, and inhumane animal treatment reports.

 

Dog Complaints and Nuisance problems with neighbor's dogs, which cannot be settled between the neighbors, are handled through the Town Court.  Dog complaints can be filed online with the Building and Code Department  *Please note that dog complaints are NOT annonomous.

*Dog bites must be reported with the Humane Society!

MARRIAGE LICENSE

Marriage Licenses

Obtaining a Marriage License in New York State

A marriage license may be obtained from any city, town, or village clerk's office in New York State and may be used anywhere within New York State.

Requirements

When applying for a marriage license, both applicants must appear in person and provide the following:

  • Both applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • An original or certified copy of each applicant's birth certificate bearing a raised seal.
    • Hospital-issued birth certificates are not acceptable.
  • A valid government-issued photo identification, such as:
    • Driver's License
    • Passport
  • If either applicant has been previously married:
    • Divorce: Original divorce decree(s) or original judgment(s) of divorce signed by a judge and bearing the court file date for each divorce.
    • Annulment: Original court-issued annulment papers signed by a judge.
    • Widowed: Original certified death certificate bearing a raised seal.
  • All documents submitted in a language other than English must be accompanied by a certified English translation.

Waiting Period and Validity

  • A marriage license must be obtained at least 24 hours before the marriage ceremony.
  • The license is valid for 60 days from the date of issuance.

Application Process

Please allow up to 30 minutes to complete the marriage license application.

To ensure adequate processing time, applicants should arrive at the Town Clerk's Office no later than:

  • 3:00 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday
  • 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday

Fee

The fee for a New York State Marriage License is $40.00.

TAXES

WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING 2026 TOWN & COUNTY TAXES.

2026 Town and County Taxes were sent out at the end of December and due in full by March 31st, 2026. Please contact the Ontario County Treasurer for any unpaid taxes at (585) 396-4432. 

We DO NOT ACCEPT SCHOOL TAXES at the Town. Please refer to your school tax bill to see where to pay.

*If you are seeing any UNPAID items on your tax bill, this is because they were unpaid and passed on to your taxes.
